NEC Corporation announced today its selection as a supplier for Telefonica's LTE pilot trial. NEC was one of the six providers chosen for Telefonica's test projects which will be conducted in six different countries where the telecom operates.
The project, coordinated globally and underpinned by the advantages afforded from Telefonica's geographic scale, forms part of the process for selecting technology partners in LTE networks, the rollout of which Telefonica aims to be prepared for, in line with its status as an international leader in innovation.
NEC will participate in the trial which includes laboratory tests and the installation of e-node Bs in the field. NEC's wireless base stations are built in compliance with 3GPP (*1) mobile communications standards. In addition to featuring the world's top level amplifier efficiency, the systems can also be efficiently constructed and operated in an environmentally friendly way through the adoption of a variety of new technologies, including SON (Self Organizing Network).
